Aliki van der Kruijs

Aliki van der Kruijs is an artist / designer who ’thinks through textiles’. She is currently a resident at the Jan van Eyck academie in Maastricht, she collaborates with companies like ‘Het Nieuwe Instituut’ and the ‘Sandberg Instituut’ and her works are acquired by museums and ministries in different countries.

She combines her background in graphic and fashion design in research to how different materials, from ceramics to textiles, can be a means of communication. With her work she investigates the synergy between weather, matter, colour and space in which notion of time and motion are essential factors.

From a conceptual approach, a curiosity for matter and science and an experimental working attitude she develops a visual grammar in which natural elements such as rain, the sun, heat or salt have been used several times as a “tool” to edit material and generate meaning. Exploring natural materials and experimenting with them for a “wasteless” approach is something Aliki pursuits. She collaborates with scientists, architects, textile-, colour- and screen printing specialists, archives and research institutions and industry for a sustainable art and design production.
